Park District Events Calendar

Dave Menard is a local printmaker who has worked with Christo and Ed Paschke among others. He currently teaches painting, drawing, photography and printmaking at Rockford College. Menard was an exhibiting artist in the 2008 Rockford Midwestern. This event is part of the Women's Art Board lecture series. Admission $10, $8 for students/seniors.

Carlson Ice Arena will host the Fifth Annual Shamrock Open Basic Skills Figure Skating Competition. There will be 100 competitors ages 5-14 from Illinois and Wisconsin participating. Spectators are welcome to attend free of charge.

Mendelssohn Chorale joins the RSO to explore three great composers who share a fascinating bond. These great composers are Felix Mendelssohn, George Frideric Handel and Joseph Haydn.

Dr. Penelope Blake of Rock Valley Collage will present the history of the first female military officers in American history who were trained at Fort Des Moines, Iowa, in 1942. In the months and years to come, thousands of other women would follow, serving in non-combat roles in order to free thousands more men to fight in the front lines during World War II. Cost is $6 per person. Museum members are free.
