Board Begins Preparation for Next Executive Director

Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners will begin the process of selecting a new executive director in anticipation of current Executive Director Tim Dimke’s retirement expected this summer.

Tim DimkeThe Board has requested support from the Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD) Chief Executive, Peter Murphy, to lead the process of executive selection. The IAPD has conducted more than 100 searches throughout Illinois. Park District Board President Ian Linnabary commented, “The IAPD has extensive experience in assisting with executive director succession planning.” Mr. Linnabary believes that the Park District’s experienced and dedicated staff, committed volunteers, and enduring partners will ensure the Rockford Park District continues to be a leader in the region’s economic, recreational, and cultural development.

Under Dimke’s stewardship, the Rockford Park District has received national acclaim from the National Recreation and Park Association for its outstanding leadership, long-range strategic planning, fiscal accountability, and innovative services. Mr. Dimke is only the seventh executive director in the Rockford Park District’s 108-year history.

Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners seeks a very thorough and inclusive search process as they decide on Mr. Dimke’s successor. The Board has requested the IAPD begin the process with an implementation of a comprehensive needs analysis to determine the skills and talents required of the next executive director. Surveys, interviews, and focus groups will be conducted with the Board, staff, partners, and citizens. The results of the analysis will be presented at the April 25, 2017 Board of Commissioners meeting, which will be held at 4:00 p.m. at Riverfront Museum Park, 711 N. Main Street, Rockford. After the Board is presented the results of the IAPD’s analysis, the Board will determine next steps in the succession planning process.
